Different types of Fiber-reinforced concrete
Depending upon sizes and shapes there are different types of fibre available on the market. The factors which are affecting the properties of fibre reinforced concrete are percentage of fibre diameter and length of fibre and water cement ratio.
Here are some fibre reinforced concrete:
- Steel Fiber Reinforced Concrete
It is one of the type of reinforcement where metal is used. Qualitative changes in concrete can be caused by adding certain amount of Steel fibre in the concrete. Resistance to cracking, bending, tenacity durability, impact can be increased it can be used in structure such as housing ,precast tunnel , bridges ,heavy duty pavment, mining ,flooring.
ASTM A820 is used to define Steel fibre.
Type I: cold-drawn wire,
Type II; cut sheet,
Type III: melt-extracted,
Type IV: mill cut and
Type V: modified cold-drawn wire
- Polypropylene Fiber Reinforced (PFR) Concrete
It can be also called as polypropylene aur PP concrete. it is formed by converting propylene, can be used in different types of application. the plastic shrinkage and drying shrinkage of one of the major concern of cracking so it can be used to prevent cracks in the concrete. It is type of fibre reinforced concrete which reduces the permeability and because of that the bleeding also can be reduced. Polypropylene fibre is vertically crystalline and nonpolar type of group. It is is more heat resistant and harder than polyethylene. Chemical resistance of of polypropylene fibre reinforced concrete is high. Polypropylene fibre has high resistance to acid ,organic solvents and Alkalies, and shows good heat insulating characteristics.
- Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete
It consists of n number of extremely fine fibres of glass. The properties of glass fibre reinforced concrete has roughly comparable to the other fibres such as carbon and still fibre. But when used as a composite material it is much cheaper and remarkably less brittle. So it can be used in different type of reinforcing agent for polymer products which is resulting in reducing lightweight fibre reinforced polymer (FRP)and the composite material can be called as glass reinforced plastic (GRP)also known as fiberglass.
- Polyester fibers
Polyester fibre can be used for warehouse floors ,precast products overlays and pavment. For superior resistance to the formation of plastic shrinkage cracks micro and macro fibre can be used with the polyester in place of welded wire fabric. If it is properly designed structural capacity can be increased.
- Carbon fibere
It comprises of largely from atoms of carbon and 5 to 10 micrometre in diameter. High stiffness low weight high chemical resistance high temperature tolerance high tensile strength are some of the advantages of carbon fibre. It mostly comprises with other material and when it mix with plastic rasin and if it is baked it produces carbon fibre reinforced polymer which has very high strength to weight ratio. The reinforced carbon composites can be formed by mixing carbon fibre with graphite because of that it has a very high heat tolerance.
- Macro synthetic fibers
It is type of fibre which are developed for alternative of Steel fibre it is produced from blend of polymer. Firstly these are type of fibre which are original e identified are the replacement of Steel fibre in the sprayed concrete but after the the researches of scientists it can be found that it has bigger role to play indesign and construction of slab and also some of the other applications. The nominal reinforcement for aggressive environment such as coastal structures and Marine structures. The problem of corrosion is very less because it does not suffer staining and spalling. It can be used tram and light railway department as they are non conducting.
- Micro-synthetic fiber
It gives better resistance to the development of shrinkage than the welded wire reinforcement. Opening caused by drying shrinkage and resistance to crack weight cannot be prevented by welded wire. This type of concrete can be regularly used in any type of concrete to improve spall protection ,freeze thaw durability, homogeneity of concrete and cracking resistance.
